HISTORY OF THE SYMPOSIUM
The first edition of “Pietra Sublime”, organized by the Municipality of Cavriglia in collaboration with Aiesm (International Association of Monumental Sculpture Events), took place in Bellosguardo in Cavriglia from 28 April to 12 May 2019 and saw the participation of 12 sculptors from Japan, Turkey, China, Armenia, Spain, Bulgaria, Portugal, Germany and Italy.
Their works, made of stone blocks to choose between statuary marble, pietra serena and travertine, remained supplied to the municipal administration of Cavriglia which then proceeded to place them in the public parks and squares of the capital and the various suburbs.
The idea of an International Symposium of Monumental Sculpture to be held in Cavriglia, was born from the vocation of the municipality to propose itself as a land of peace. There can be no peace without dialogue, solidarity and cooperation between peoples, and art can, in this regard, be an important instrument of dialogue. The fact that artists from various parts of the world participated in the event is an emblem of what has been said. With a view to intercultural and interpersonal exchange, as collateral activities at the Symposium, but no less important, meetings were organized with schools and cultural associations, to allow art to make its voice heard.
